Hawaii Well Located for Trans-Pacific Satellite Services

KAPOLEI, HAWAII -- Hawaii is becoming home to a growing number of companies that are using a combination of satellites and fiber-optic cable to connect far-flung regions in Asia and the Pacific rim to the U.S. Internet backbone. The companies are taking advantage of Hawaii’s geography and robust cable links to the U.S. mainland to reduce the signal delays associated with connecting with Asia using satellites alone, said Vince Waterson, vice president of business development at one of the firms, Transvision International Teleport LP.
