This weekend the crew of Mir will be in contact with amateur radio operators and it could be one of their last before leaving the Russian space station at the end of this month.

In all likelihood, few people will get to actually chat with the two Russian cosmonauts and French astronaut aboard. But many will probably listen in.

The Sunday conversation is part of a long history of cooperation between the crew of Mir and amateur radio operators.

The conversation is scheduled to take place at around 8 a.m. ET (12:00 UT).

The cosmonauts have set aside an hour to chat and may get to about 40 to 50 people. Thousands more may tune in.

Voice frequencies are: 145.985; 145.825 and 145.800.
